North to Alaska, June 2012

As we  traveled up the inside passage to Alaska,  I didn’t expect to feel the motion of the sea at all. The Zaandam was a fairly large cruise liner, with more than ten floors and fifteen hundred passengers.
It started out smoothly the first few days.  But one evening the pitching and rolling of the ocean became very noticeable. Walking through the dining room without falling down was a real challenge. Later, one of the waiters told me that he was green with seasickness all night long, but that he couldn't get away from his work long enough to get some relief! He was just hired on the staff and hadn't acquired his sea legs yet.
I was happy when we finally walked on solid ground  in Ketchikan. Even though the Zaandam seemed so large to me, it was just a matchstick on the ocean. Remember the Titanic?  It was advertised as being unsinkable! No matter how big and indestructible we think we are, God is far greater.
