Florida's Cashless Toll Roads!
We are home from our trip to Florida and it feels soooo good! Al and I were talking on the way home about the fact that nothing went wrong--no accidents, blotched reservations, lost items... It really was a great trip!
There was only one little blooper: we didn't realize that we would be traveling on toll roads when we rented the car at the Miami Airport. The man at the car rental desk wanted to sell Al a pass so that we could drive on the toll roads without having to pay. Al declined because he didn't think we'd be traveling on toll roads and if we did, we could always pay cash.
We didn't realize was that there are many main freeways (including the Florida Turnpike) which are cashless toll roads. There are video cameras set up above each lane which take pictures of every car's license plate and then the owner automatically gets billed through the mail, unless he/she buys a pass ahead of time.
Al and I began seeing the signs "This is a cashless toll road. Pay by the plate or by the pass" as we were driving along and finally realized that the rental company was being charged every time a picture of the license plate was taken. Oh dear, what to do?
In the end, we had to buy the pass when we turned the car in--an extra $8.00 per day times 10 days meant $80.00 for the toll roads! Oh well...at least we helped pay for the beautiful, big freeways around the state! Would that system work in LA? Hmmm!
Thank you, dear Lord, for being with us while we were on our trip. Thank you for the wonderful blessings and provisions you have poured out upon us, enabling us to travel. Thanks for your protection, for guiding us along the way, for working out all of the details and for bringing us home safely. And thank you for my husband, who is a great trip planner, traveling companion and a loving partner. I love you, Judy
