Candle Lighting Service
The room
is dark and still.
I wait
expectantly, hushed,
feeling
the coolness of the
candle
in my hand,
the
smoothness of the wax.
Candles
alone can do nothing—
darkness
pervades
until a tiny light appears,
a
glimmer from somewhere
extinguishing the darkness.
Two
lights, then a row
as the
flame is passed from one to another.
Faces
appear, forms become visible.
The room brightens.
We raise
our candles together and
strains
of “Silent Night” fill the room…
darkness
flees
hope reigns. (12-4-21
