Who is walking whom?
Our two puppies took us for a long walk down Globe Drive today! Oh, there were a few times when TJ and Teddy walked beside us with their leashes hanging loosely--just a few!
Al and I are trying to teach them that they are walking with us and not vice versa. However, I think this is going to take some time. It's a difficult concept to understand, especially for puppies. We did see several deer along the way; but thankfully, the dogs didn't try to chase after them, otherwise we may have gone airborne.
Teddy weighs about 60 lbs and TJ about 45. They are solid muscle. So what will happen when they are full grown? By the size of his feet, the youngest one (TJ) is going to be a big dog. For our safety and for his as well, he needs to learn to obey us and to walk beside us. There is no way I'm going to be able to hang on to a one-hundred pound dog who decides to chase after a deer. This is something we need to continue working on until "going for a walk" means that we lead and Teddy and TJ follow.
Dear Lord, please help Al and me to have wisdom in training our dogs until they learn how to obey. And while we're at it, please help us to learn how to follow you, trusting you for guidance and letting you be in full control of our lives. Thank you for loving us all! In Jesus' name, Amen
