What in the World is That Smell????

Happy New Year! So what did you do on New Year's eve?
Our big excitement was trying to chase away a skunk which had burrowed into Al’s riding lawnmower! The dogs first called our attention to it, by barking incessantly and pointing with their noses through the fencing which separates their run from the covered area protecting the trailer, lawnmower, canoe etc.
The minute I stepped out the door of the house, I knew what the animal was. The odor was very strong and obnoxious. While Al tried various methods of trying to get him or her out of the mower, I looked up “how to get rid of a skunk” online.
Al actually found the most effective way by starting the engine! The skunk hurried away but not before making sure that the whole area was sprayed. Thankfully none of us were hit.
Then I spread around rags soaked in ammonia as directed by the online article. Skunks don’t like the smell of ammonia! I guess they are unable to smell themselves…ten times worse than ammonia, at least to my nose!  The little critter hasn’t returned, but we are still reminded daily of its presence thanks to that spraying job!
Christian skunks? I hope not! May we as Christ’s followers spread the fragrance of God’s love wherever we go.

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.” 2 Corinthians 2: 14 NIV
